A coalition of legislators and activists joined Georgia State Senator Harold Jones II (D-Augusta) at a press conference to introduce Senate Bill 254, removing felony possession of marijuana. This bill will not legalize or even decriminalize marijuana, but will make possession of more than one ounce a misdemeanor rather than a felony which carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 fine.
Representatives from Georgia C.A.R.E. Project, Peachtree N.O.R.M.L. , NAACP, Spartacus Legal Foundation and the House and Senate members. Media attending the event included AJC, Creative Loafing, Macon Telegraph, WSB TV, FOX 5, CBS 46, Atlanta Progressive News and others.
Georgia C.A.R.E. Project would like to thank Sen. Jones and everyone who made this event possible. Marijuana law reform has come to Georgia. Please do you part to make it happen.
